Union station rail corridor maintenance contract
maintaining the heart of toronto's rail network
status: active
Upon the sale of the Union Station Rail Corridor (USRC), ownership of the entire track and signal infrastructure was transferred to the Province of Ontario and GO Transit (a division of Metrolinx), while the Union Station building itself was sold to the City of Toronto.
TTR retained responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the track and signal systems to ensure GO Trains continued to run safely and efficiently. Since 2000, TTR has expanded its track, signal, and operations departments to support the increased protection and oversight required for construction activities related to the anticipated growth in GO Transit service frequency.
As of July 2024, TTR continues to deliver track and signal maintenance and construction services in accordance with standards set by Transport Canada and Metrolinx engineering requirements.
As part of regular inspections of railway assets within the corridor, TTR routinely performs the following work:
Grinding switches and frogs
Welding switch points, frogs, rail ends etc.
Changing rail and other components of double slip switches and single switch
Ensuring switches are adjusted
Changing ties and spot surfacing
Building and installing panels
De-stressing rail
Ballast transport and dumping
