Signal & Communications Maintenance

TTR is responsible for maintaining all of the USRC signalling cable and equipment. Our signalling team is dedicated to maintaining, inspecting and controlling the hundreds of signals and miles of signaling cable along the USRC in compliance with TTR and Transport Canada standards.

Some of the responsibilities the TTR signalling division have include maintaining and repairing:

  • Crossing Warning Systems
  • Fiber optics
  • Wireless communications
  • Relays
  • Gate mechanisms
  • Cables
  • Batteries
  • Grid resistance

The teams of Signal Maintainers are responsible for troubleshooting and inspecting the above items as well as the switches, circuits, safety monitoring systems and snow clearing devices.

The signals department handles a variety of different tasks from lubricating mechanisms and machines to troubleshooting code or signal failures. However, each job is important to have a properly functioning signals division as well as to ensure all trains coming in and out of the USRC are directed safely to their destination.
